Chris has a background in the theatre, a training in therapy and a career in environmental education with the Devon Wildlife Trust and WildWise, UK. He uses every creative means at his disposal to encourage people to enjoy and value the natural world on training courses for education professionals, corporate and community groups, and personal development holidays around the world. He is the founder and director of WildWise, and of the Westcountry Storytelling Festival. Chris's aim is to broker a new relationship to the natural world so that it is always there as a resource - for inspiration, for sanctuary, for play and for pleasure. His approach is to sample the many different ways to engage with nature, through the diversity of our whole being. His methods are drawn from bushcraft, fieldcraft, storytelling and the arts and theatre worlds.
Some comments on Chris’s work:
- ‘Thank you for all the delights you gave us – you and your presentation were truly charming. Your magic will be the most enduring memory of the weekend.’ (Anne, Trethurgy - retreat 2005)
- ‘I can only describe the night as magical - just the kind of experience that everyone should have to encourage a “closer to nature” feeling...I returned home on a high which lasted several days and I know we all took home memories that will last a life-time.’ (Sue Beswick, South Hams District Council)
- ‘It was without doubt one of the best weekends of my life. The organisation, care and attention to detail were exemplary.’ (University of Plymouth lecturer)
- ‘Thank you for opening our eyes; for making us feel guilty about the wasteful speed of our lives and for giving us a new perspective and challenge.’ (Anne Brandse, International College, Surrey)
